Planning your outdoor summer family photography session can be difficult due to the heat. But, I want to share some tips for you on ways to stay cool for your session.
Ways to Stay Cool for your outdoor summer family photography session
Hydrate!
I can’t stress this enough. It’s HOT outside in the summer. Drink plenty of water before your session. Bring water to drink during your session. And, have some water in the car on ice for after the session. Don’t forget a straw so you don’t ruin your makeup.
Lightweight Clothing
Not only lightweight, but light colors too. Dark colors attract heat, so you may want to keep that in mind. But, linen and lightweight fabrics will definitely help keep you cooler. For the ladies/girls, you can opt for a dress or skirt. And, for the boys, shorts are always cute. Think Prince George in all his pictures. Pretty cute huh?

Time of Day
I know waking everyone up early and getting them ready for a morning session can be tough. But, consider the tradeoff. In the early morning hours it’s about 80 degrees, but later in the evening, it can still be close to the middle 90’s. Which sounds better? You can always try “bribery” with a yummy breakfast outing after the session. A few of my favorites that I am sure your family will love: Tacodeli (because who doesn’t LOVE breakfast tacos?!), Kerbey Lane, Snooze an A.M. Eatery, or 24 Diner. Your tastebuds will thank you.

Location
You’ll definitely want to factor in the location for outdoor summer family photography sessions. Something close to the water tends to lend a nice breeze. And shade is always important.

Of course, at the end of every session we can work in a cool treat for your little ones (or yourself). These can include watermelon, ice cream, popsicles, or my favorite, running in the sprinklers.
