How to Feel Confident Posting Photos of Yourself
Struggling on how to feel confident posting photos of yourself? Learn how to show up authentically, even when it feels vulnerable.
If you’ve ever stared at a photo of yourself and thought, “I love it… but I could never post it,” you’re not alone.
I’ve been there too. And so have most of the women I photograph.
Therefore, today, I want to talk about how to feel confident posting photos of yourself—even the one that makes your heart race a little.

The Fear of Being Seen Is Real
Let’s start with the hard truth. Being truly seen can feel terrifying.
We overthink photos that feel “too real.” Those that feel too emotional, or too bold, or too much like… us.
But here’s what I’ve learned, those are usually the photos that resonate the most.
They’re not always the most polished. And, they’re not necessarily the ones we planned to post. But they carry truth. And that truth is what connects us to others.
Behind the Camera, I See This All the Time
For example, I’ve photographed thousands of women—seniors, CEOs, entrepreneurs, and women just trying to get comfortable on camera.
And every session? There’s one photo that makes the client pause.
Not because it’s bad. But because it’s honest.
It shows them a version of themselves they didn’t expect to see.
And often, that image is the one their audience responds to the most.
Why?
Because it’s real. And we’re all craving more of that.
You’re Not Building a Brand for Applause
You’re building a brand to lead. To connect. To inspire.
And if you’re hiding the photo that actually shows who you are, you’re hiding part of your story too.
People don’t want perfect. They want permission to be themselves, to feel something, and to belong.
And that starts with you showing up. Even when it feels uncomfortable.
What If That Scary Photo Is the One They Need?
The next time you find yourself hesitating, here’s what I want you to do:
- Revisit the photo you’ve been avoiding.
Not to critique it. Just to see it. - Ask yourself: What’s real here? What emotion is showing through?
- Then challenge yourself: What if someone else needs this version of me?
First, we don’t need more curated content. We need more connection. Or we need more honesty. And finally, we need leaders who aren’t afraid to be seen.
