Homeschool Austin is becoming more of a reality as the summer is winding down. In fact, many of us are facing this reality and it can be really overwhelming. Hopefully the information provided will be helpful to your family.
Homeschool Austin
Karen Riley of Home Plate 101 is a friend of mine. In fact, I like to call her a homeschool expert. She started her career as an accountant/financial analyst, then became an art teacher. Karen fell in love with teaching and the rest is history! She has successfully homeschooled for over 15 years.

Recently Karen and I sat down together, virtually, to discuss all things homeschool. You can watch that interview here. Of course, I’ll summarize it below as well. And, you can also read in more detail about everything more in depth on her blog.
What do you recommend people start doing now to prepare?
- The Curriculum: Books and Budget – She has some great resources and links on her blog. Some schools in the spring provide a lot of help while others did not. Figure out what you’ll need and where you’ll need to supplement now to be prepared for the fall. She has some really helpful links on her blog on where you can buy curriculum. Be sure to check it out!
- The Space where you will be working or storing school supplies and books – Bins and bookshelves. No one wants to lose their home to a cluttered mess. Use one shelf for books you’ll need throughout the year and another shelf with a bin of projects and books you’re currently working on.
- The Day when and how you actually do the lessons – Spreadsheets! Karen is all about organization and spreadsheets. She uses a large monthly calendar to track everything. Organization is key.
In short, I hope these homeschool Austin tips were helpful. You can contact Karen if you need any help with any of this! Of course, you can also contact me and I’ll put you in touch with her.
